In 2019, our mission was defined as: “As a hospital, our core mission is to provide and deliver accessible, quality, safe, and valuable care to our patients in our region.”
We note that in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape, we want to adhere to this mission. Our goal has indeed remained unchanged: we want to prevent people from getting sick as much as possible, and if they do become sick and vulnerable, we want to help them as best as possible by providing the best possible care. However, we realize that we need to emphasize a number of key points.
For example, we mainly want to focus on basic specialist care in collaboration with our (network) partners and emphasize that we are there for all people in our care region.
If we want to become/remain the preferred hospital for every patient in our care region, we must also meet the specific culturally diverse environment and care needs.
We reformulate our mission for 2023-2026 as follows:
"As a regional hospital, we strive to provide accessible, quality, safe, and valuable care to every patient in our care region."
Accessible Care
From our DNA and our history, we have a special focus on our patients with limited financial resources. Besides actual and quick access to care, financial accessibility is also of essential importance.
In addition, we want to focus not only on affordable care but also on lowering access barriers for all language and cultural communities by consulting with them and paying extra attention to culturally sensitive care.
Accessibility is also reflected in the further development of our satellite consultations. We want to invest in care close to the patient. We choose strategic locations with sufficient parking, close to public transport, etc.
Finally, we are also focusing on digital accessibility by investing in a digital patient file, digital invoicing and payment options, etc.
Quality and Safe Care
Quality is becoming increasingly important for the survival of an organization. It not only creates value for the user but also guarantees the attraction of competent doctors and staff who can provide the targeted quality. It is increasingly determining the funding of care, where, in addition to the quantity of care provided, the outcomes of care are also important.
Patients expect the best, quality care. We meet this expectation by focusing on all dimensions of quality:
- Integral care where diagnosis seamlessly transitions into treatment and aftercare.
- Continuous quality improvement in all our processes. We make this visible by benchmarking our quality of care against internal and external quality standards.
- Scientifically based care.
- Safe care, where everything is done to prevent avoidable harm to patients. We strive for “zero defects”.
- Equality, taking into account personal preferences and expectations determined by language, culture, gender, patient environment, etc.
Valuable Care
We also want to provide valuable care to our patients. We determine the added value of what we do from the perspective of our individual patients and the various patient groups to which they belong.
The emphasis is on care that contributes to their well-being and health. We carefully analyze what this means for the patient and let this understanding evolve according to the care needs.
Patient
We are convinced that certain aspects of the “customer is king” principle apply to the way we want to organize our hospital. This includes friendliness, speed of service, personalized approach, but also the rights and obligations of all parties involved.
At the same time, as the hospital of the future, we attach great importance to, among other things, integrated care and preventive care, making the traditional use of the term “patient” too limiting and too focused on the 'sick person'. With our offer, we indeed target a wide spectrum of individuals who have a health-related question ranging from staying healthy as long as possible to getting healthy again.
Care Region
Our hospital provides basic specialist care to the citizens in our care area. Our patients mainly come from the municipalities of Vilvoorde, Machelen, Grimbergen, Meise, Steenokkerzeel, Zemst, and Kampenhout.
