Dr. Thomas Acke, physician-specialist in geriatrics, will join the geriatrics department at AZ Jan Portaels from May 2021.
Dr. Acke earned a master's degree in medicine (Ghent University) in 2014 and a master's degree in specialist geriatric medicine (Antwerp University) in 2021. During his training as a physician-specialist, he gained experience in the ZNA hospitals in Antwerp, among other places. Dr. Acke speaks Dutch, French and English.
Geriatrics Department
The geriatric departments of AZ Jan Portaels treat acute and chronic conditions that occur in elderly patients where, in addition to curative care, a lot of attention is also paid to quality of life and self-reliance. This involves a close co-operation with the Rehabilitation Department and the Palliative Unit "De Cirkel".
Dr. Thomas Acke is now part of the Geriatrics team, which further consists of

There are also permanent ward physicians, general practitioners in training and medical interns who help support the department.
