Both the cardiac patient care pathway and the repeat surgical and internal medicine care pathway were inspected. Helena Polfliet, Communications Manager at AZ Jan Portaels in Vilvoorde is pleased with the results. “The inspections show that AZ Jan Portaels scores very well in terms of overall care and patient safety."

In each round of inspections, the Care Inspectorate focuses on requirements that are important for the quality of care and for patient safety. The choice to perform unannounced inspections emphasizes the importance of getting the daily basics right for our patients.

AZ Jan Portaels achieved the maximum score in just about every area of the healthcare process for cardiac patients. Only recording and identifying pain after treatment scored 11 out of 14. They also had the maximum score for 9 of the 11 pillars in repeat surgery and internal medicine. “Those results were outstanding! We will now focus more on those last two areas where we also scored well but did not yet reach the maximum. It's about identifying and anticipating pain in patients after surgery," Helena Polfliet said.
